Gallery: Abbey Park Road Footbridge lifted into place

The superstructure of the new pedestrian and cycle footbridge on Abbey Park Road in Leicester has been lifted into place, marking a major project milestone.

Danaher & Walsh was appointed by Leicester City Council to construct the new footbridge via the Maintenance of Highway Structures term contract.

The project is one of three separate schemes D&W is carrying out for Leicester City Council on Abbey Park Road, which together make up a major revamp of the busy route.

The new footbridge is situated parallel to the existing Grade-II listed Abbey Corner Bridge, which is being refurbished by Danaher & Walsh. In addition, D&W is carrying out major highway improvements to Abbey Park Road.

The new footbridge will provide a safe route for cyclists and pedestrians, bypassing the narrow existing bridge, which dates from 1878.

The steel superstructure was lifted into place in a technically and logistically challenging operation on Saturday 9th April, marking a major project milestone.
