D&W Plant Hire helps rescue horse from river

Danaher & Walsh Plant Hire helped stage the dramatic rescue of a horse that had fallen into a river weir.

The horse had slipped into the cold, fast-flowing waters of the Junction Lock Weir on the River Soar and was unable to move.

Danaher & Walsh Plant Hire worked with Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service, the RSPCA and a local vet to safely rescue the animal from the water whilst causing minimum distress.

Workshop Foreman Jamie Talbot expertly manoeuvred a telehandler into position. Specialist lifting equipment was secured around the horse's body by Leicestershire Fire & Rescue's specialist Technical Rescue team.

This was then fastened to the telehandler's forks, before being gently lifted. Jamie slowly eased the telehandler backwards before the horse was released from the hoist by animal experts and led away to safety.

The horse was immediately tended to by his owner and a veterinary surgeon and appeared to walk away unharmed by the accident.
