Danaher & Walsh is 50!

Danaher & Walsh is celebrating FIFTY YEARS in business.

Today, 13th February, marks exactly 50 years since the company was founded in 1969. A party has been held for employees in the Mountsorrel office to mark the occasion.

Danaher & Walsh was established by Dan Danaher Senior and his brothers-in-law Tom and Mike Walsh. The business initially focused on Plant Hire and small construction works.

Dan Senior sadly passed away in 1980, at the age of 48. His wife Vera then took over the running of the business. She was really thrown in at the deep-end, as a woman in an overwhelmingly male-dominated industry. But, with a young family to support, she was determined to make a success of the business. This was achieved by continuing to embrace the family values instilled by the founding members of the family.

She was assisted by her brother Tom Walsh, who was a Director of the company before he sadly passed away in 1988 at the age of 50.

In 1989, the company celebrated its 20th anniversary. At the time, the business was turning over around £2m per annum and employed around 30 people. In the late 1980s, the company, led by Vera, diversified into civil engineering, which is now the largest part of the business. Meanwhile, Vera’s brother Mike Walsh took over running of the plant hire side of the business, until he took retirement and returned to Ireland in 1991.

Dan Senior and Vera’s son Dan Danaher joined the business in 1990 following completion of a degree in Accounting & Finance. Dan initially worked in the Finance department, before becoming Plant Director and eventually being promoted to Managing Director in 1994, with Vera becoming Chairman of the company – a position she holds to this day.

Since that time, the business has grown rapidly under the leadership of Vera and Dan. Today the group operates three successful subsidiaries: Civil Engineering, Plant Hire and Advanced Pipeline Solutions.
