APS deploys specialist cutting unit
Danaher & Walsh APS has boosted its specialist pipeline repair capabilities with the addition of a dedicated mobile precision cutting vehicle to its fleet.
The vehicle is being deployed to tackle specialist trenchless cutting operations, such as concrete and debris removal and the opening of lateral connections.
The van has been built around the state-of-the-art IMS Turbo cutting robot, which is effective in pipes between 225mm and 800mm nominal diameter.
The robot is controlled from a dedicated station built within the van. The Turbo’s onboard camera relays real-time images to the operator, allowing for high precision operation.
All of APS’ crews are equipped with cutting robots, but the new dedicated cutting unit enables the team to tackle larger and more specialist cutting jobs within sewers and pipelines.
Recently, the cutting unit has been deployed on a tricky job in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, removing troublesome concrete blockages from sewers in a residential area.
Concrete blockages within sewers is a common problem, caused either by wet concrete being flushed through a drainage system, or by construction works inadvertently excavating or piling through a buried pipeline.
