Key aims and challenges

Morgan Sindall was appointed to construct infrastructure for Phase 5 of the development for Central Bedfordshire Council via the Eastern Highways Framework. Morgan Sindall awarded a major subcontract to Danaher & Walsh for the construction of site roads and sewers.

The drainage installation includes 1,200 linear metres of foul sewers including 19 manholes, 1,400m of storm sewers, 690m of highway drainage as well as a 75m precast concrete box-section culvert with reinforced concrete headwall.

Additionally, a foul water pumping station was constructed. The drainage systems were connected into the existing networks for adoption.

The road construction required the laying of 1,700m of kerbs and the import of over 1,000m3 of sub-base. Conditions meant that substantial dewatering was required across the site.
