Key aims and challenges

The £16m, 320 place Histon & Impington Park Primary School was built to replace a smaller junior-only school nearby.

The Section 278 highway works package combined the formation of an entrance into the site with a number of other highway improvements, including the construction of a toucan crossing outside the new school.

The school is located on the busy B1049 Glebe Way, which is the main route through Histon from Cambridge. Improvements were also made to the nearby junction with Cottenham Road, including the construction of a new pedestrian crossing.

Other works included asphalt surfacing, installation of new street lighting and new road markings.

Traffic management was used to allow the works to progress safely while minimising disruption to the highway network.
