Key aims and challenges

A complex system of scaffolding was erected across the river so that the narrow, aging existing concrete-decked bridge could be carefully dismantled.

The existing bridge piers were retained, restored and strengthened. An attractive custom-designed steel and timber structure was installed and steps constructed.

How did we do?

The site of the bridge is in a very remote location, so works access and, more specifically, access for the delivery of the pre-fabricated bridge structure required careful early planning. Access permission was negotiated with a local landowner to access for deliveries and the crane required to lift the superstructure into place.

The project was completed on time and on budget.

From the client...

I went out to Thoroton this morning for a final inspection and thought the finished bridge looked very good...The site around the bridge has been left very tidy...

Thanks for your help with this scheme and hope we have the opportunity to work with you again in the near future.
