Parliament Street Bridge Refurbishment, Nottingham

About the project

This Victorian bridge in central Nottingham once crossed the Great Central Railway outside Nottingham Victoria station. Since hidden from view due to the closure of the railway, comprehensive repairs were required to keep the bridge serviceable.

Key aims and challenges

In the 1970s, the Victoria Centre shopping complex was opened on the site of the railway. Its basement car park now lies underneath the bridge.

The ingress of rain and salted water from winter gritting had severely corroded and reduced the strength of the bridge.

A new reinforced concrete slab was incorporated into the existing structure, constructed in four phases to allow 2 way traffic flow through the works.

We also upgraded the Victoria Centre's basement car park's M&E equipment, including lighting, emergency sprinkler system, roller shutter doors, and air conditioning.

How did we do?

The works were completed 4 weeks inside the programme period and for 15% less than the tendered allowance.  Our Senior Agent was awarded the CECA Midlands Site Manager of the year for his management of the scheme.
