Key aims and challenges
The new bridge replaced an existing structure, providing footpath access over the Broadwell Brook.
D&W removed the original structure and set it aside for disposal. After constructing new abutments, the wooden superstructure was assembled from a kit. The scheme also comprised footpath construction, landscaping works and fencing works.
A key feature of the project was the limited access to the site, owing to the bridge's location outside of the village in a rural location. The project was completed with minimal impact to the local environment by using a small team and compact site set-up.
Relations with local residents were very productive. One village resident, Mark Skinner, created a video diary of the bridge's construction. You can watch a video about the scheme here.
