The deck of the Victorian bridge over the main railway lines into the station was removed and replaced with a reinforced concrete slab which was sealed with a protective waterproof membrane to prevent damage by salted winter gritting and water ingress. Carrington Street is a major road in the City of Nottingham, passing in front of the Train Station. The works were undertaken without any disruption to the train services and with the road remaining open with a single lane in each direction.
